Firestone TPO
Fiirestone Ultraply TPO is a flexible Thermoplastic PolyOlefin (TPO) roofing membrane. The scrim-reinforced membrane combines the weatherability of rubber with the heat weldability of a thermoplastic in a flexible sheet with excellent layflat characteristics. It offers a unique combination of features and benefits, which have been demonstrated on rooftops around the world.
Ease of application
Available in widths up to 3.05m providing fast, economical coverage. It is a lightweight membrane offering a variety of installation options for low slope roofing applications in both refurbishment and new construction projects.
Hot-air welded seams
Ultraply TPO hot-air welded seams result in fast, economical installation, consistent seam quality and high strength. Heat welded seams form a homogenous bond by fusing the top and bottom sheets together. Ultraply TPO’s seaming process enables it to be installed year-round in a variety of weather conditions.
Superior weatherability and durability
Ultraply TPO membrane contains no plasticizers and no halogen flame retardants resulting in outstanding resistance to UV radiation and ozone. The membrane also exhibits strong resistance to algae and fungi growth and common rooftop chemicals.
Outstanding reflectivity
Firestone Ultraply TPO’s light coloured surface reflects sunlight before it can be absorbed and converted into heat energy, eventually improving the energy efficiency of the building.
Colour
The standard colours for Firestone Ultraply TPO membrane are white and grey.
Green Roof System
Firestone UltraPly TPO has successfully passed the FLL test for root penetration resistance in green roofs. It is an ideal membrane for combination with extensive green roof systems using lightweight and low maintenance sedum vegetation.
As well as the obvious aesthetic advantages of green roofs, they offer excellent insulation properties and help to keep the cold out in winter and the heat out in summer.
Green roofs serve as excellent sound insulators reducing the noise pollution from outside the building.
Firestone EPDM
This is a single-ply rubber membrane made of ethylene propylene diene terpolymer mixed with carbon black, oils, curing agents and processing aids. It is calendered into large sheets and vulcanised.
Firestone Rubbergard EPDM offers high performance features and benefits such as :
- Quick and easy Installation
It is available in panel sizes up to 15m in width and 61m in length resulting in fewer field seams and less installation time.
- Superior weatherability and durability
Firestone Rubbergard EPDM is a fully cured membrane composed of essentially EPDM polymer and carbon black unmatched resistance to ozone and UV radiation. As the membrane does not contain any plasticizers or flame retardants, its characteristics remain stable and unchanged over time thus providing a sustainable roofing solution.
- High flexibility and elongation
Firestone Rubbergard EPDM remains flexible at temperatures down to –45C and can elongate over 300% to accommodate building movements and temperature fluctuations.
- Low Life-cycle cost
Firestone Rubbergard EPDM requires little or no maintenance. Even after years of exposure, if needed the membrane can simply be repaired using the Firestone QuickSeam Tape products. This feature combined with the inherent durability and competitive installed cost of EPDM roofing systems result in a very low life-cycle cost.
- EPDM is a roofing membrane that contains a flexible type of rubber material that is available in thicknesses of 45 mil (as thick as a dime), 60 mil (as thick as a quarter) and 90 mil (as thick as two dimes). Because of its flexibility and strength, EPDM can be contoured to the unusual shapes of any roof. It can be purchased in sheets that are up to 50 feet wide and 100 feet long.
Liquid Rubber
A one coat system means material and cost savings; as well as a lighter load for your roof. Liquid EPDM is nearly identical chemically to sheet EPDM but with the distinct advantage of being a liquid. It is self-adhering and seamless. Waterproofs immediately upon application. Liquid Rubber Coatings are available in White rubber or Black Rubber however you can colour it by simply adding a non oil-based “Universal Colorant”. Liquid Rubber Coatings applied over generally sound single ply EPDM can extend its life another 20 years.
Liquid EPDM coatings are just as effective roofing material as the sheet form coatings commonly used in the roofing industry. In many cases, they are better. They combine all the benefits of EPDM rubber roofing with the flexibility of using a liquid.
To fully understand the benefits of liquid EPDM coatings, you must first understand the role that roof coatings play. Roof coatings are extra layers of protection for your roof. They can extend the life of your roof, because they help defend against the elements and possible scratches and leaks. They can be used on a variety of roofing materials, including metal and rubber roofs. Only one coat of liquid EPDM rubber is required to get an effective layer of protection.
Liquid EPDM coatings offer a lot of flexibility. They can conform to any roof and can easily be applied around flashings, chimneys, and other roof obstructions. Being a liquid, it cures and forms a seamless membrane. Liquid rubber is water resistant even in an uncured state. An unexpected rain shower shortly after application will not wash it off.
